Cauliflower Crust Pizza

This past Friday night was pizza night over here! However, the pizza we had was nothing like I’ve ever had before. Sure, I’ve had gluten-free pizzas made from various different flours but this one was made from cauliflower – not grain. A true vegetable-centric pizza at its best!

And better yet, it was a properly combined pizza given there was no heavy starch (i.e. grain) + protein combo that usually makes pizza so heavy and oftentimes difficult to digest. Continue reading

Instead of That…Try This!

Looking for a healthier alternative to your daily Frappuccino or coffee fix?

Look no further!

Combine the following ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth:

  • 1 frozen (ripe) banana
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk or your favorite dairy alternative
  • 1 tbsp of almond butter
  • 1 tbsp of *Teecino OR ground organic espresso (or whole beans)

Optional ingredients:

  • 1-2 dates (for added sweetness)
  • 1 tbsp of raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon and/or natural vanilla extract

* Teecino is a caffeine-free herbal coffee alternative that you can find at your local health-food store.


p.s. If you’ve been living off those Starbuck’s “Treat Receipts” this summer you might be dissappointed to know they came to end yesterday (at least here in Canada). No need to fret though as this alternative isn’t only healthier, it will also keep some $ in your wallet if you happen to have one of those daily frou-frou coffee habits;)

Mojito Madness

I’ve always loved the taste of a good mojito! The delicious combination of freshly squeezed lime juice coupled with the flavour of fresh mint was always enough to tantalize my taste-buds and perk my spirits. Wait…or was it the rum? ;)

In any case, after stocking up my kitchen with lots of fresh limes and mint this past weekend I decided to reinvent the classic mojito taste in virgin-style, sans the refined sugar, that can be enjoyed anytime of the day (including breakfast!) and won’t leave you with a hangover if you drink more than one! Summer Solstice

Summer is officially here in the Northern Hemisphere! Well technically it starts this evening at 7:09pm (EDT) but let’s not get lost in the minor details;)

If today’s temperature is any indication of what’s in-store for us here in Toronto I can tell you that I’m going to be sipping on a lot of coconut water throughout the summertime.

Coconut water, also known as “nature’s sports drink”, is brimming with important electrolytes, particularly potassium, that our bodies lose through times of intense sweating – especially during exercise and/or hot weather conditions.  As I tell all my clients – ditch the Gatorade loaded with refined sugar, additives and artificial colours and go straight for the coconut water! Springing into Summer! (plus a fresh recipe)

Not to jump the gun but things have been heating up around here!  Spring is in full bloom here in Toronto but given the gorgeous long weekend we just had I must say it felt a bit more like summer. I’m not complaining though!
